TOUR DE FORCE DR. MICHAEL MURPHY BRINGS POST TRAUMATIC GROWTH TO THE FOREFRONT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, February 26, 2018 — It has long been said that every cloud has a silver lining. It is in such a spirit that acclaimed international educator/motivational speaker Dr. Michael Murphy seeks to illuminate the positive energy inside each of us that can be re-engaged and maintained to turn what could be devastating Post Traumatic Syndrome (PTS) into enlightened Post Traumatic Growth (PTG).

When it comes to dealing with extremely stressful traumatic situations, Dr. Murphy, the president and CEO of MPower USA, an international management consulting firm providing management and leadership guidance to public and private agencies, has certainly seen his share. He brings more than 40 years of experience to the stage as a former boots-on-the-ground chief of police, coroner, and Director of Forensic Services with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

In motivating his audiences, Dr. Murphy hopes to ingrain the term Post Traumatic Growth into their minds and bring it and its meaning out into the mainstream public. By definition, PTG or benefit finding is positive psychological change experienced as a result of adversity and other challenges in order to rise to a higher level of functioning. It is about undergoing significant life-changing shifts in thinking and relating to the world that contribute to a personal process of change that is deeply meaningful.

“You can either be a victor or a victim in your particular situation,” Dr. Murphy advises. “The choice is yours. I always refer to a line from the movie ‘Tin Cup’ starring Kevin Costner. In that film, Costner’s character says, “There are defining moments in your life and either you define them or they define you.’ You can’t let anything define you. If something is good, make it your own. Otherwise, you have to adapt and push forth.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” he adds. “It’s how you deal with things that determines your success. You have to be open to life happening in a positive way. If you’re an ER nurse, a fireman, a policeman, or a salesman, for example, you’re going to be dealing with high stress every day. The realism of it is that it’s not going to end. There is no secret formula for Post Traumatic Growth. It’s what you do that makes the difference.”

Dr. Murphy, who is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and possesses a doctorate in Business Administration from California Pacific University, began his journey into public service as an entry level police officer in Kansas City, Kansas.
